The 2026 regime change
- After 36 years of annual June reconstitutions (since 1989), FTSE Russell moved to a semi-annual schedule: the full June reconstitution plus a second, size-rules-only event in December (banding still applies; style recalculations only for movers).
- Originally slated for November, the second recon was moved to December 11 after market feedback (announced Nov 5, 2025).
June 2026 — what happened
- Record $553.9B traded at the close; Nasdaq’s closing cross alone was $334.0B versus $102.5B a year earlier.
- Russell 3000 total market cap jumped from $58.4T to $75.6T (+29%); the Russell 1000/2000 breakpoint rose ~24% to ~$5.7B.
- 61 additions to the Russell 1000 (42 promoted from the 2000); SpaceX entered under the new IPO fast-entry framework.
